A Healthier Smartphone Engagement with Minimalist UX Design
Many of us were trying to break free from our smartphone addictions even before the pandemic. We are now more than ever using our phones.
The most well-known attention-grabbers are social media and gaming but push alerts, badges, sounds, and vibrations generate an unjustified sense of urgency. In-app advertising might also detract from your original goal by encouraging you to shop instead of doing what you originally intended.
"We [as designers] have to be better about context and understanding of what we're trying to do," Simon Skaria, Microsoft Mesh Product Director, told The HCD. Traditionally, product designers have expected people to react to technology. Still, Skaria believes it should be the other way around.
